New publishing agreements with Frontiers, MJS Publishing and PLOS

Published: 2024-01-11

From January 1, 2024, researchers at KI can publish articles open access without having to pay a publication fee in all journals from the publishers Frontiers, MJS Publishing (formerly Medical Journals Sweden) and PLOS. The agreements are financed by the Swedish Research Council, Forte, Formas and Vinnova.

The agreements are a result of the research funders' policy decision to jointly fund publications with publishers who only publish fully open access journals and include all of the Bibsam Consortium's participating organisations. Corresponding authors can publish in all of the publishers' journals, regardless of the type of article and with no fees for either the author or the university.

KI has previously had agreements with PLOS and MJS Publishing via the Bibsam Consortium. The new agreements mean that the research funders pay the publication fees instead of KI. For corresponding authors at KI, there will be no difference; as before, they choose Karolinska Institutet as their organisational affiliation when submitting manuscripts.
