Statement from the University Library regarding PubMed and the political situation in the USA

Published: 2025-03-13

In light of the new administration in the United States and concerns about the impact on the operations of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the United States National Library of Medicine (NLM).

The University Library at KI has the entire NIH/NLM medical database PubMed downloaded locally, from 1995 onwards. Updated publication data is retrieved from PubMed weekly. At present, there is no evidence that publications are being removed to a greater extent than usually occurs (about 200-500 per week). There is no evidence that the current content of PubMed has been modified in terms of the presence of specific MeSH terms or keywords. The MeSH terms are updated annually but no other updates have been made recently. Regular checks are made for the presence of MeSH terms, which are checked against searches conducted some time ago. The University Library continuously monitors changes in the content and availability of the PubMed database. For further questions, please contact the University Library.
