How to easily find journals with prepaid publication fees

There are many reasons to publish open access. The most important reason, of course, is that your research is more widely disseminated. But as a researcher at KI, you also need to follow KI's open access policy and meet the requirements of various research funders. Most of the Swedish research funders that contribute financially to KI's research, and also the European union, now require the publication of research results with immediate open access and a CC BY license.

To enable this, Karolinska Institutet has signed open access agreements with around 20 publishers, including Springer Nature, Elsevier, Wiley, BMJ and Oxford University Press. But also with a number of smaller publishers and pure open access publishers. The cost of open access publishing is prepaid through the agreements.* You can search for journals covered by the agreements in the Open Access/APC Checker Tool.

When you find the journal you are looking for, you will also get a link to important information on how to take advantage of the agreement. We strongly recommend that you read this. It includes information on what is required to take part of the agreement, the types of articles covered, and the publishers' own instructions on how to proceed.

Please note that the content of the Open Access/APC Checker Tool is continuously updated and titles may be added or removed. It is therefore important that you check that your journal is included when you submit your manuscript. Please also note that this is not a quality assessment service for journals, it should primarily be used to check if a specific journal is included in any agreement.
