The links between patenting and publishing constitute an intrinsic part of the development of the modern research infrastructure, the post-WW II ascent of R&D, technology transfer, and the belief in metrics and statistics as trustworthy indicators of progress and development.

During the webinar, 25 September, Eva Hemmungs Wirtén will give an historical and personal overview of these links, beginning with Marie Curie and continuing until the present time. As a story of the twentieth-century she will highlight the tension between the values of intellectual property and those traditionally associated with basic research.
