Wanted: Instructor of science writing in the doctoral course Writing Science and Information Literacy
Karolinska Institutet University Library seeks applicants for the position of instructor of science writing for the doctoral course Writing Science and Information Literacy (WSIL).
You need to be employed at KI and have experience with research, science writing and publishing. You should be interested in working with the other instructors involved in the course long-term. The position involves teaching and developing those parts of the course that concern science writing and publishing.
This is a two-year, 20% position, with the possibility of renewal.
Writing Science and Information Literacy (WSIL)
One of the tasks of the Karolinska Institutet University Library (KIB) is to consult on and teach topics concerning the scientific publishing process for doctoral candidates and researchers. Teaching and administering WSIL is a key part of that task. WSIL is offered on campus and online and consists of 3 university credits. The course aims meet the overall goals of doctoral education, as defined by the Higher Education Ordinance.
The purpose of WSIL is to help participants develop their writing skills and increase their knowledge of science writing, popular science writing, the publishing process, and finally the changes current within scientific communication, in particular as regards open science. Participants will develop their critical thinking skills throughout the course, and deepen their knowledge of systematic literature searching and reference management.
During the spring, KIB is renewing and updating the online version of the course; in the future, the campus-based course will be similarly renewed and updated.
You should be employed at KI and have experience with research, science writing and publishing. You should also be interested in working with the other instructors involved in the course long-term.
Your responsibilities will involve both campus and online versions of the course.
- Develop, produce, and together with KIB and KIB’s Academic Writing Support administer and teach those parts of the course that concern science writing and communication. A particular focus is on writing the original research article and dissertation kappa.
- Initiate and maintain collaboration with those outside of the university library who participate in and present parts of the course.
- Actively participate in the group responsible for the entire WSIL course, in addition to participating in discussions at KI that concern research education in general and the publishing process in particular.
- Participate in internal groups that develop other writing- and publication-focused activities for doctoral candidates.
Your qualifications will be weighted according to the following: 3) pedagogical expertise, 2) experience with scientific publication and publishing work, 1) course development skills and collaborative ability.
Other qualities valued are cooperativeness, patience, and the ability to create and maintain relationships.
You must have a permanent position at Karolinska Institutet to be considered for this position. Your department will be compensated for your income.
