Bibliometrics at KI and Stockholm County Council
The main purpose of bibliometrics at Karolinska Institutet and Stockholm county council (SCC) is to offer analysis of the institutes research to management, departments, clinics and other staff. As a researcher you can order a bibliometric analysis of something you are interested in. However, you have to pay a fee for this service.
Since 2009 KI and SCC have a common model for allocating research funds directly to departments and clinics based on performance. In this model bibliometrics is one of four weights used to calculate an activity score for each department, hospital and clinic.
Bibliometrics involves statistical analyses of publications. One method is to measure the number of scientific articles published by a certain group of writers, and the number of references (citations) to these articles. Another method is to study the statistical relationships between various articles, authors and subjects.
