For questions about electronic journals available at Karolinska Institutet, please contact the library e-media support: emedia.ub@ki.se.

A database has been created by The Centre for Medical Innovations together with Karolinska Institutet University Library.

The database contains references to articles from some 5700 journals from 1992 and onwards, where any of the authors are affiliated with Karolinska Institutet. You will also find a list of 100 new articles published by KI researchers.

Photo copies of articles can be ordered by using the library's order form.

All articles in PubMed has a unique number called PMID. In the PubMed reference you can see what the PMID number for that article is.

You can use the PMID to quickly find an article in Pubmed. You can also use the PMID when you order articles from us.

National Academies Press is an organization created by the American National Academies (the National Academy of Science, National Academy of Engineering, Institute of Medicine samt National Research Council).

They publish about 200 books yearly within current topics, among them medicine.

 

In Witness Seminars individuals active within the field of medicin discusses important occurrences and discoveries in the modern history of medicine.

The library provides access to over 50 000 eBooks. Below is an overview of the resources and publishers. Please use the catalogue (MIKS) to search for a specific title.
Some of the publishers offers the possibility to create a user account on the platform. The account gives you access to enhanced functionality such as creating a personal bookshelf and making notes and bookmarks.

Around fifty book series from Karger. Including Contributions to nephrology, Current studies in haematology and blood transfusion, Pain and headache, Progress in experimental tumor research, Progress in neurological surgery and World review of nutrition and dietics.

Around 70 monographs on topics in biomedicine and psychology from 1997-2011.

Tabels, constants and conversion factors between units in chemistry and physics. About ten titles are free for KI, but other resources from this publisher are not for free.

 

Includes over 50 medical textbooks from Elsevier.

Students and staff at KI can log in to get remote access to databases and journals.

KI affiliates can reach our electronic resources on their computers on the KI network and through our proxy service.

Electronic resrouces can be accessed on computers at the library by all visitors. However not for commercial use.

Karolinska Institutet University Library negotiates deals with a number of different publishers and providers, giving users within Karolinska Institutet access to thousands of electronic journals as well as databases and e-books.

For the deals negotiated by the University Library, the terms and conditions vary from publisher to publisher and provider to provider. Should anyone within Karolinska Institutet not abide by these terms and conditions, the publisher or provider has the right to cut access for the entire Karolinska Institutet.

The proxy service has been replaced by a log in link in the top right corner at the main library website. If you are a registered student at Karolinska Institutet or an employee, you will access all library e-resources through this log in whether you are using a computer at Karolinska Institutet, or using your home computer. Therefore, you do not have to log in through proxy anymore.

Books

At the University library the books are organized according to the NLM Classification for medicine. Other subjects are organized according to SAB.

Use the library catalogue MIKS to find your course books. In the catalogue you will find what shelf the book is on, and if it is available. You can limit your search to KI prescr. book in the material type drop down meny under extended serach.

You can reserve books that are not available. If you leave your e-mail address to the library you will get an e-mail when the book is available for pick-up.

Course books can be borrowed for 7 days.

All course books are available as day loans. You will find them at the library desk.
 

Search in the library catalogue MIKS to find our books. In the catalogue you can see if the book is available, if it is placed in Solna or in Huddinge and what shelf it is on.

If you're looking for older material (-1966), you can search an online version of our card catalogue that covers a great part of our collection up to 1966. (It works best in Firefox with Java updated).

In KIB-labb we can help you with the search process, references and critical evaluation of sources.

KIB-labb is open Monday-Friday between 11-16 pm on drop in basis.  Just go to group room 5 in Solna or "Skansen" in Huddinge (located on the upper floor of the library). 

 

The search service is available to those customers who do not perform their own search. The library help desk performs the search in consultation with the customer in the databases of their choice.

If you would like to apply for a search session or receive more information about it, please contact the library by e-mail (ub@ki.se).

The charge for a search consultation is:

The prices above apply for a one hour search session. If more time is needed charges will be made for another basic fee or for a part of that.

If there is a need for performing the search in databases not belonging to one of the library's fixed price agreements, the customer pays the basic fee plus the charge set by the database host.
