Where can I find free e-books?

National Academies Press is an organization created by the American National Academies (the National Academy of Science, National Academy of Engineering, Institute of Medicine samt National Research Council).

They publish about 200 books yearly within current topics, among them medicine.

 

In Witness Seminars individuals active within the field of medicin discusses important occurrences and discoveries in the modern history of medicine.

How do I access e-books?

The library provides access to over 50 000 eBooks. Below is an overview of the resources and publishers. Please use reSEARCH or the catalogue (MIKS)  to search for a specific title.
Some of the publishers offers the possibility to create a user account on the platform. The account gives you access to enhanced functionality such as creating a personal bookshelf and making notes and bookmarks.

    Harrison, Hurst's the heart, Adams and Victor's principles of neurology amongst others.
    Limited number of users

  • Current Protocols Wiley (KI)

    Cell biology, Cytometry, Immunology, Molecular biology, Neuroscience, Pharmacology, Protein science, Toxicology. Classic and most recent methods in laboratory science.

  • ebrary (KI)

    Over 50 000 eBooks from more than 220 publishers in one searchable and browsable interface. By logging in to the bookshelf (with your KI-login) you can create your own bookshelf and  make notes and bookmarks. You can print out 40 pages.

  • Encyclopedia of bioethics (KI)

    Reference work from Gale in multiple parts on topics in biomedicine which needs an ethic point of view, ie patient - physician relationship, fertility and human reproduction, use of laboratory animals, gender issues, death and dying, the new genetics, organ transplantation.

  • Kargers bokserier (KI)

    Around fifty book series from Karger. Including Contributions to nephrology, Current studies in haematology and blood transfusion, Pain and headache, Progress in experimental tumor research, Progress in neurological surgery and World review of nutrition and dietics.

  • Knovel (KI)

    Tabels, constants and conversion factors between units in chemistry and physics. About ten titles are free for KI, but other resources from this publisher are not for free.

  • Books@Ovid (KI)

    399 textbooks in medicine and nursing via Ovid. From the publisher Lippincott Williams & Wilkins.

  • PsycBOOKS (KI)

    PsycBOOKS includes about 500 titles published by the American Psychological Association (APA) dating from the 19th century until present. The books are available in full text (PDF).

  • PsychiatryOnline.com (KI)

    Here we got DSM-IV-TR® , The APA Practice Guidelines in both comprehensive and quick reference formats among other titles.

  • Springer protocol (KI)

    Methods in molecular biology and Methods in molecular medicine (formerly published by Humana press). Methods in laboratory science

  • Thieme Ebook Library (KI)

    E-book collection from the publisher Thieme. The collection of some 30 titles includes their well known Color Atlas Series.
